Opening Notes
"The seasons stumbled 'round...."

This month's newsletter arrives two weeks late because my article took me that much longer to write. I apologize for any inconvenience.
You may have also noticed that the newsletter has a new home. The former one was disappearing more often than not, so the time had come to find it a permanent residence. Another new thing is the Lyric of the month feature, which for now will be included in the Opening Notes message.
Finally, there are more links in Sites & Sounds. Two point to the Yahoo Groups that, together, have the complete songs files for Karen Carpenter's solo outtakes and the Carpenters' 1970 "Your Navy Presents" radio program. Anyone who doesn't have these is welcome to download them. Anyone who does, please pass the word so other fans won't have to pay any (expletive) bootleggers for them.

Lyric of the month
CRESCENT NOON
(from the A&M album, "Close To You" SP-4271)
(Richard Carpenter - John Bettis)
Irving Music, Inc. (BMI)

Green September
Burned to October brown
Bare November
Led to December's frozen ground

The seasons stumbled round
Our drifting lives are bound
To a falling crescent noon

Feather clouds cry
A vale of tears to earth
Morning breaks and
No one sees the quiet mountain birth

Dressed in a brand new day
The sun is on its way
To a falling crescent noon

Somewhere in a fairytale forest
Lies one answer that is waiting to be heard

You and I were
Born like the breaking day
All our seasons
All our green Septembers burn away

Slowly we'll fade into
A sea of midnight blue
And a falling crescent noon
