Opening Notes
"One more time for the good times that far outweigh the bad...."

Being a Carpenters fan is never boring. There's always some new item that excites, riles, irritates, surprises, or just keeps us guessing.
Last month was no exception. The biggest news was the disinterment of Karen Carpenter and her parents Harold and Agnes from their gravesite at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, and reinterment to an outdoor mausoleum on the other side of Los Angeles, near Richard Carpenter's home in Thousand Oaks. Although most fans were shocked by it, they unanimously wished the family the best and prayed their loved ones would find a more peaceful resting place.
In other news, the 35th Anniversary Collectors Edition Box Set, with all the original studio albums, a informative booklet and commemorative handkerchief, was released last month in Japan. On the 27th of this month, a 35th Anniversary Hits Collection - Gold - double CD set, containing three songs from the As Time Goes By album as well as the instrumental "Karen's Theme," will be released in the United States. Some web sites show a February 10th release date. A review of Gold by MusicTAP's Matt Rowe can be found at: musictap.net/Reviews/CarpentersGoldCD.html.
If you're looking for something a little less new, please check out this month's article about Carpenters' U.S. singles. They're like Pringles: Once you start collecting these it's hard to stop.
Whether you're in the market for new releases or old, being a Carpenters fan can sometimes be a bit expensive, too - and, in my opinion, worth every penny.

Lyric of the month
ONE MORE TIME
(from the A&M album, "A Kind Of Hush" SP-4581)
(Lewis Anderson)
Big Heart Music, Inc./ Harmony and Grits Music (BMI)
I'm going way down south to Louisiana, tonight
Well, I'll just close my eyes
And everything's all right
And though I'm really far away
I'll make my get away
And no one need really
Know that I've been gone

One more time for the good times
That far outweigh the bad
One more time for the good times
When love was all we had

I'm going way down south to Baton Rouge, tonight
Well, I'll just close the door
And turn out all the lights
And all the images dance by
Of folks and friends who lie
Back home where things are slow
And easy going

One more time for the good times
That far outweigh the bad
One more time for the good times
When love was all, when love was all
When love was all we had
One more time
