Starting this month, Carpenters fans can look forward to seeing the duo not only back but rising on the U.S. album charts. This time with Carpenters Gold: 35th Anniversary Edition. According to Billboard.com's Fred Bronson, this A&M/UTV release, which debuted at No. 119 in The Billboard 200, "is the 17th album by the brother-and-sister duo to chart....That gives Richard Carpenter and his late sister Karen an album chart span of 33 years, five months and one week." How's that for musical longevity?
Contributing to that longevity are the many wonderful talents this pop-music team surrounded themselves with both on stage and in their recordings over the years. Their names and credits are all listed in this month's article.
It's also satisfying to see Richard and Karen getting the same respect in print that they're receiving yet again from the buying public. Along with three songs previously unreleased in the U.S., this new album delivers a package so chock-full of great Carpenters tunes that it's bound to spark another renewal of interest in the group's music. It makes the memory of their songs from all those years ago seem like only yesterday once more.
